Should I Hire a Marketing Assistant?
by Matt Johnson, on

Do you hear that? It’s the sound of your to-do list growing by the second as you try to finish up the presentation your boss asked you to complete in three days even though he knew over a month ago this was something he would need.
Oh, that has never happened to you? Well then you have a good boss and can count your chickens. For the rest us, there is never enough time in a day to catchup from that relaxing vacation we were able to take two years ago. There is a glimmer of hope though: your boss has finally given you approval to hire a marketing assistant to help ease your workload and get to those wish-list tasks you’ve been staring at for the past year.
It’s Not A Dream
After pinching yourself and realizing that you weren’t day dreaming, the question you have is, ‘what now?’ The first thing is coming up with a job description and identifying the skills needed to fulfill the job requirements.
Ideally, the individual will have experience with a content management system or basic HTML coding experience to help maintain your website. If you really want to ratchet up your Google search inquiries, they will also have some understanding of search engine optimization, better known as SEO. Staying in the digital space, they will be a social butterfly and run your social media accounts or have experience in running effective email marketing campaigns. I am sure you will also want this person to help design the printed flyers your sales team uses or take presentation design off your plate, so add graphic design experience to the list as well. And of course, let’s not forget, this person needs to have industry experience!
Sounds like a pretty amazing person that anyone would want to have on their team huh? Yup, you’re correct, I am amazing, I mean...most marketing individuals have a good understanding of a couple of the above skill sets, but it is rare to find someone well versed in all those skills, unless of course you plan on paying that individual handsomely.
